an informal birding record

About

Welcome to my webspace, dedicated to making my photographic record of birds and wildlife accessible to friends and family. This is not an optimised nor actively promoted site (though I have registered with Google); it's more of an informal personal 'phlog' (aka photo blog) - which you are, of course, most welcome to browse.

Although I've ditched the really bad pics, you'll find a combination of acceptable portraits and mere 'record shots'. I offer all the usual lame excuses about bad weather, heat haze, expedience etc.

Most of my early and mid-life images were taken while snatching a few hours during business trips and family holidays - and the very occasional (!) twitch. It's certainly incomplete; and it's mostly digiscoped stuff or scans of old fashioned photo prints developed from emulsion film.

Equipment
I finally got round to replacing my trusty old Canon A1 and Tokina 300mm f2.8 ATX with a digital rig (EOS 7D, 400mm f4.0 DO, 100mm f2.8L Macro and 1.4x extender) in 2009. However, all my digital gear was stolen in early 2012, so I took the opportunity to replace the 400mm DO and 1.4x extender with a 300mm f2.8 and 2x extender. Although the DO was great in good light, it had significant failings (poor colour and contrast) in low or flat light.

Qatar and beyond
With my family, I moved to Doha, Qatar in mid-2012. After two wonderful years, we returned to the cooler, wetter climes of the beautiful Isle of Man in the British Isles. By way of a blog, I've endeavoured to keep the 'latest additions' list updated since my time in Qatar.

I hope you enjoy what's here. Do get in touch if you have any comments or questions. You're especially welcome to let me know about broken links and to correct any erroneous identifications. If I've made a mistake, please save my embarrassment by letting me know!

Good birding,

Neil G. Morris

Update: I've just overhauled the navigation of the site and have undoubtedly broken a few links and introduced some typos. I'd be especially grateful if you would let me know if you come across any. Thanks.
