Larus cachinnans

Above: 1st winter/2nd calendar year (Essex, 29 January 2011)

A rather unconvetional cachinnans, with a number of contra features. Those coverts look rather tool pale and patterned for a typical cachinnans. Structure and jizz suggest a small compact cachinnans at least. Note the central two tail feathers have been moutled to second generation feathers.
