Herring Gull |
||
Larus argentatus (argentatus?) Above: 1st winter/2nd calendar year (Lower Sunbury, Middlesex, 10 February 2004) First winter (second calendar year) showing excessive (upper and lower) mandible growth, which is not uncommon in scavenger species such as gulls. Coarse upperpart markings and pattern of tertials tend towards L. a. argentatus rather argenteus.
