Scandinavian Herring Gull?

Larus argentatus argentatus?

Above: Adult (Lower Sunbury, Middlesex, 07 October 2004)

A large, dark, presumed 'northern' Herring Gull towards the extreme end of the range of darkness for L. a. argentatus. Note the steely-blue tone of the grey upperparts. Perhaps you might feel that the identification of this bird is pretty straightforward, but try taking a look at this rather similar, though altogether different, individual.
