Larus marinus x hyperboreus?

Above: 1st winter/2nd calendar year (Bliingham, Cleveland, 04 January 2009)

Frustratingly elusive, this bird showed pale (and pale-edged) primaries, dark-washed underside, rather strange mantle, scapular and wing covert patterning, as well as a distinct lack of a dark tail band. Could it be a Great Black-backed with Glaucous Gull influence?
