Herring Gull

Larus argentatus (argenteus?)

Above: 1st winter/2nd calendar year (QE2 Reservoir, Surrey, 18 January 2009)

A peculiarly long- and narrow-billed individual, though the bill does look suspiciously deformed. This bird also has interestingly patterned tertials (with plain centres and limited white distal edging) as well as clear grey in the mantle. However, it appears to be just an odd Herring Gull.
