Larus argentatus (argenteus?)

Above: 1st winter/2nd calendar year (QE2 Reservoir, Surrey, 31 January 2009)

These photos don't convey the paleness of this bird in the field, though a strong secondary bar and narrow tail band instantly ruled out anything but a pale Herring Gull.
