Adult Northern Herring Gull (Essex, 04 February 2012)

A dark and almost Caspian-looking individual which, as can be seen from the image above, stood out from the crowd. Compare with the other obvious adult Northern Herring Gull to the left of the Crow and the adult Lesser Black-backed Gull (graellsii) to the right.
