After half an hour of creeping ever closer, I got within touching distance of this handsome male. The only problem was that the heat haze meant I only got two sharp shots out of thirty. It seems to be a regular issue with shooting birds in shaded areas where the cooler air of the shade mixes with the hot air of the open areas. The lens constantly hunted for focus, despite being set on 'spot focus' and there being no intervening branches and twigs.
