  • 1<2: Distance from back of eye to bill base is less than (or equal to) bill length
  • 3=4: Basal bill length is equal to distal (nail) length

In summary, note the long pointed bill; also the greeny-yellow leg colour.

(Above) Lesser Sandplover

  • 1>2: distance from back of eye to bill base is greater than bill length
  • 3>4: basal bill length is greater than distal (nail) length

In summary, note the shorter stubby bill; also the charcoal grey leg colour.
